The Service Club of Andover recently held its Annual Day of Giving at the Andover Inn.
Representatives from a variety of organizations were on hand to receive checks from the Service Club. The
following organizations continue to benefit from the financial support of the Service Club:
Andover Youth Foundation - endeavoring to raise the private funds necessary to
build a place to house the many worthwhile programs of the Andover Youth Services.
Creative Living - is a private non-profit organization that develops
innovative, private, social, recreational and housing solutions for adults with developmental disabilities.
Professional Center for Child Development - is a non-profit, community based
agency that provides hundreds of children and their families with the opportunity to grow and develop to
achieve their full potential through services such as early intervention, a developmental day school,
pediatric therapy and parent support services.
Merrimack College Best Buddies - is a non-profit organization dedicated to
enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one
friendships and integrated employment.
Andover High School Mentoring Program - provides Andover High School students
an opportunity to experience first-hand a specific profession. Each year the Service Club matches juniors at
Andover High School with career mentors in fields that they select including sports journalism,
investigative reporting, radio broadcasting, Internet, information technologies, medicine. Three $2,500
scholarships are awarded each year to graduating seniors that participated in the program.
Student Safe Driving Program - Each year 42% of first year drivers have
accidents. The fatality rate of first year drivers is four times that one the general population. The
Service Club of Andover sponsors the Stevens Advanced Driver Training Program in local communities to
provide teen drivers with the skills to help them beat these odds.
Three new organizations were also on hand to receive the financial support of the
Service Club. These included:
New Horizons for Youth - The Andover Police Department, in collaboration with
the Andover Youth Services, the Andover Housing Authority and the Andover Public Schools, has implemented an
after-school program called, "New Horizons for Youth". This program provides at-risk middle school
students who are living in two of the Town's subsidized housing areas with a safe and enriching after school
environment.
Merrimack Valley Pioneers - Special Field Games are similar to the Special
Olympics. Individuals with special needs compete in a variety of sporting events and ALL participants
receive medals for their efforts.
Wood Hill Middle School's - Expeditionary learning program built around
learning expeditions, other active forms of teaching and learning and a challenging and supportive school
culture.
